Mary, a Dog Politics reader, out in Kansas City, MO wrote this evening:
"Just wanted to let you know that I’ll be lighting a candle on August 19, 8PM to support the ongoing fight with breed bans"..........
Mary - you rock! What better timing to share that SAVE THE DATE reminder, than right now.
While we all anxiously await word on just how deep a crack responsible dog owners in the Province of Ontario, Canada, were able to pry open in the DOLA -one of the most oppressive breed bans in the world - one thing is exceedingly clear.......................
There is an all-out war against innocent dogs going on around the the world.
Or would it be more fitting to say there is an all-out war on the PEOPLE who own these innocent dogs of a certain breed.
Over the weekend, Michael Bryant, the Attorney General in Ontario, promised to export his breed ban - his dog hate - his not-so-thinly-veiled racism - throughout the rest of North America.
Well, Michael, not so fast. Last time I checked - this is still a democracy. And here in the States - unlike Canada - my dog is still my property.
There's something standing in the way of your anti-pitbull, anti-dog agenda .....................
.......... and it's called property rights.
That's right, Michael, my property rights are standing in the way of you seizing my dog, taking my dog, killing my dog - all because I own a pitbull.
My property rights are standing in the way of you penalizing me, taxing me, or holding me to a standard that no other tax-paying, dog-owning citizen in required to meet - all because I own a pitbull.
Trying to backdoor your breedism and your racism - whether it's in the form of "guardianship" - or in "anti-tethering laws" - or as "kindness" - won't work either. People have the 411 on your tactics.
Dog owners get the idea that if you can't get through the frontdoor with BSL here in the US, you'll try the backdoor, or even the sidedoor.
There's not one pitbull owner here that's drinking your "guardianship" Koolaid - we ain't drinking your "anti-tethering" Koolaid either. So who you think you foolin', fool, with your "kindness" routine?
You round up innocent dogs in Canada, and the police in the UK urge neighbors to rat out neighbors for owning "illegal" dogs - like a scene out of Farenheit 451.
The Michael Bryants of this world commit crimes against the people in the name of "kindness" or "public safety". The Michael Bryants trample civil liberties in the name of "kindness" or "public safety". The Michael Bryants steal property and kill innocent dogs in the name of "kindness" or "public safety".
The Michael Bryants of this world try to cloak their racism against people of color, as well as their elitism by banning breeds, and killing innocents dogs, because they can't directly ban the breeds of people they really want to target.
To dog owners and politicians everywhere: let's be frank, shall we?
Breed bans aren't really about the dogs. Breed bans are really about the people who own the dogs.
It's time to demand social justice for not just for innocent dogs, and it's time to demand social justice for innocent dog owners.
I invite all of you - no matter who you are, what breed of dog you own, no matter where you live - to take a stand, and stand up for your dog, to stand up for innocent dogs and innocent dog owners everywhere, by taking part in the:
Remember - no matter who you are, no matter what breed of dog you own, no matter where you live - help Light A Candle, Save A Life, and tell the world to stop killing innocent dogs!p>

Thank you for all the good work you do here. It is my honor to join our efforts to yours!
EDITOR"S NOTE:
no - it is I who must thank you! Welcome to the vigil!

clay mcmahon it's not a religion, its the simple fact that we believe our dogs should not be murdered just so politicians look like they're doing something to address the issue of dog attacks! BSL has been proven to be INEFFECTIVE in reducing dog attacks, so why the hell do politicians keep pushing it?! If you really cared about community safety you would support solutions that deal with irresponsible owners not kill innocent dogs and punish responsible people!

It's the owner not the breed!

Now I understand where the term DOGmatism originated! I never knew there were so many absolute fanatics for whom dogs are a religion. I would not shed a tear if all pit bulls, rottweilers, presa canarios, etc were banned, eliminated or whatever. The country is apparently truly going to the dogs... in the worst way!

HUA!
Michael Bryant is a rabid, little, hateful man who is missing Hitler's mustache.
I'm SO glad I'm not his mother!
They should have kept the placenta and thrown him away.
Seriously.

I will never stop fighting these laws. I will move until there is nowhere else to go before anyone takes my dog, and I will fight to the death for my PITBULL!
