Road To The White House - Black Men, White Women, Guiliani & Pitbulls
Ya gotta love Chris Rock - always tellin' like it is. That is until now.
In the video "SNL Special Report - Road To The Whitehouse", Chris Rock sums up the field of candidates gearing up for the 2008 presidential election.
Commenting on the Republicans, Chris Rock says that John McCain was too old even 8 years ago. But of course that's not the issue.
The issue is that Chris Rock says that former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani is, and I quote, "great in a crisis, but in real life, Giuilani is kinda like a pitbull. He's great when you have a burgler, but when you don't, he just might eat your kids".
Well, Chris - them jus' may be fightin words, but let's go to the videotape:
Chris Rock goes on to discuss the Democrats. He says, "Hilary or Obama - a black man or a white woman. It's so hard to make up my mind - it's like a suffering contest!"
Chris asks, "How can you compare the suffering of a white woman to the suffering of a black man? It's not even close!"
Well, Chris - I'm inclined to agree - but we can save the debate over social justice for women (especially in the Third World) for another day. But calling Giuliani a pitbull is kinda like calling a black man........
a white supremacist.
But Chris - if you want to go there - then let's compare the suffering of black men to that of pitbulls - that's probably a better comparison.
The suffering of black men includes (but is not limited to) : Living While Black, Voting While Black, Climbing The Career Ladder While Black, Walking While Black, Buying Real Estate While Black, and let's not forget the ever popular Driving While Black.
And it's quite true there seems to be- shall we say a trend - that many of these While Black activities (especially here in the NYC area) just might include an encounter with the police. And furthermore - engaging in these While Black activities (especially Walking and Driving) - just may get you shot.
Now, Chris - let's just say that while certainly there can be no reparations for the years of slavery, mistreatment and prejudice suffered by black men, let's look at the suffering of pitbulls and pitbull owners, in the contemporary context, shall we?
This includes (but is not limited to) : Living While Owning A Pitbull, Voting While Owning A Pitbull, Climbing The Career Ladder While Owning A Pitbull (don't ask, don't tell), Walking A Pitbull, Buying or Renting Real Estate While Owning A Pitbull , Buying Insurance While Owning A Pitbull and let's not forget the ever popular Driving With A Pitbull (stay out of Denver and the Province of Ontario - they lynch pitbulls there.)
It's quite true that just some of these activities just may include and encounter with the police, such as Walking With Your Pitbull, Playing In Your Yard With Your Pitbull. Coincidentially - simply engaging in these activities also may result in a police shooting.
Like yesterday in Texas, where a fatal mauling occured - the owner's three dogs were in the yard and the Collie had blood all over it. But when police arrived - they shot the pitbull. Or how 'bout like in Louisville - where police shot a pitbull on the street because he had a "funny look" in his eye. Or like in San Francisco where the cop shot the pitbull in the doorway of the owners apartment building while she answered the door.
So you see, Chris, black men and pitbulls just may have more in common than you might have thought, silly.
They Shoot Black Men & Pitbulls, Don't They?
Ok - so let's see - what kind of silly reasons to do black men and pitbulls get shot for? How about:
- He looked at me funny
- He moved "aggressively"
- He was gonna shoot me
- He was gonna bite me
- He was gonna attack me
- He had a funny look in his eye
- It was a black man - they are all criminals anyway
- It was a pitbull - they are all criminals anyway
- Because I can get away with it - he's only a ..................
It's not like black men and pitbulls have anything in common, right?
It's not like the media and polticians think that the only people who would own a pitbull are "gang members, drug dealers, crackheads and criminals", right?
And it's not like those word are code words for "black" or "Hispanic" men, right?
Hey Chris - you got it all wrong, darlin'. As NYC Mayor, Giuliani wanted to ban pitbulls. Or was it that he really wanted to ban the people who owned the pitbulls...... get it???
Where's Reverend Al?
Saying that "Guiliani is like a pitbull that just might eat your kids" is kinda like saying that Chris Rock is a black man that just might jack your car, rape your wife, or shoot you for $20.
Here's the 411, Chris. As a black man, you just engaged in the kind of discrimination and negative stereotypes and marginalization that you fight against as a black man. Talk about irony.
You never sold out to the man before -which leads me to ask the question just what kind of black man are you?
Not only did you insult the thousands of innocent dogs already fighting to stay alive - you insulted the thousands of people who own innocent pitbulls - people who are discriminated against, stereotyped, and even have their civil rights marginalized and violated - all because they own pitbulls, be they black, white, Hispanic, etc.
Hey! Since all us pitbull owners are having our civil rights violated - and that's a double whammy for those of us who are black or Hispanic - I just have one question:
Where the heck is the Reverend Al Sharpton when you need him (or at least his hair)?
Oh - that's right - Reverend Al is busy with the Sean Bell case, isn't he. Something about unarmed black men being shot, cops being indicted..............
What Are You Bitches Waiting For?
Chris, baby - don't you worry, honey - I'm still a fan.
But Giuliani ain't no pitbull. In his eyes YOU, my friend, are the pitbull. And - don't look at me funny - 'cause they won't hesitate to shoot you either - even if you are wearing that fancy suit and Italian shoes and appear on TV.
So now that we're all quite clear on exactly where Rudy stands (or should I say stomps) on my civil rights, the question is where do Hillary, Obama and John stand?
I say get out and vote and let your pitbull be your guide.
And like Chris Rock says in the video to all the "white women out there who've had to vote for almost 100 years - What are you bitches waiting for?!!"

I think everyone took Chris Rock's comments too seriously, while most comedians voice their own beliefs through their comedy, they do it in a comedic fashion and exaggerate their point a bit.
And by the way women weren't the only ones accused or burned for being witches. By the way Black men having the right to vote and actually being able to vote were two different things, how about you do your research along with Chris Rock.
Editor's Note: John - You are correct - there IS a difference between have the RIGHT to vote and actually being able to CAST a vote.

I was equally dismayed by Mr. Rock's statement - I heard it not once (on SNL), but twice (on Bill Mahr's show, too). Disappointing. I guess I always expect folks that have suffered injustice not to be the ones that engage in stereotyping. Here in KC, we have a black man running for Mayor (and winning) that last summer tried to ban my pitties; this while admitting to having a vicious doberman (unreported, of course). How can the oppressed so quickly become the oppressors? I guess it's just the American way.

... and don't forget, pitbulls can't reach for a gun. or a knife. Or is that too politically incorrect?

What are the chances of Chris Rock showing up Here to read this? Girl, you should send it to him! (It's at least as funny & to the point as his monologue was.)

Someone might tell Chris Rock that technically black men got the vote with the Fifteenth Amendment in 1870; women (black and white) only got it with the Nineteenth in 1920. But hey, who's counting? (And I'd much rather vote for a pittie than Rudi G.)

YOU forget the hundreds of years of women burned at the stake as witches and also tortured for not "fitting in."
How dare you forget the thousand upon thousands of women tortured this way or worse by their own husbands . . . oh, and yes, they happened to be white, because black women of the time of the centuries when the church took over, were still in their native homeland.
Study history before making such idiotic statements as this post includes!
Editor's Note: Yes, Dear Reader - I agree. But the part about women not suffering as are the words of Chris Rock. Check out the video.

We tend to look at movie stars and comdians as relatively smart and together people. People you may envy, even. Don't they have it all? Good looks (usually), money, fame, fans. What a life. This example shows us how much they really have between their ears. Evidently the audience is in the same IQ category, since the comment drew laughter from a potentially explosive comment. Or, is laughter the way we cover for our nervousness over inappropriate subject matter? I wish more people had backbones.
