« Pet Massacre In Puerto Rico - Mayor Condones Raids After Warning Of No Pet Policy | Main | New Rochelle Police Demand Photo ID From Dog Owners »

October 17, 2007

Cheryl Allen

I am concerned about because though they are doing a good thing they encourage spaying and neutering of all dogs and cats. They think that the reason animals wind up in a shelter is almost everything but the real reason which is many people just are careless about keeping their dogs in the yard. Around me is a lot of people who just allow their dogs to run up and down the block. Animal control comes through frequently and rounds them up, while their owners are at work. They are sad but it is their carelessness, and it is these types that are making it hard on those of us who are extra careful to make sure our dogs do not get out of the yard. A huge conspiracy is underfoot to brainwash the masses into thinking that neutering and spaying is showing real love and that killing a dog or cat is better for the animal than perhaps he might wind up with a dysfunctional family! I'm not kidding this spokeswoman for a animal shelter said that. Their were 15,000 dogs and cats murdered by animal control last year, a small number considering that I can remember many years (here in Bakersfield Calif) when animal control murdered 65 to 70,000 animals a year! Those numbers seem to have magically disappeared. They are acting appalled that they had to kill 15,000 last year, when what it really shows is that many people have gotten really good at keeping their animals home. I live in a neighborhood where the majority around me are from Mexico, and their attitudes about dogs is the same as it was there, and that is just the way they are. They lose one they get another from their family. Mostly chihuahuas. You can drive around my neighborhood and see cute chihuahuas running the street daily. It breaks my heart because I love them but I can't take them home. I do not have room for anymore pets. Anyway could you start doing what "dogsindanger' is doing only without the spay and neutering bologna? Genocide is the result in a few years of all mutts and heinz 57 animals, with only the expensive select breeds around for those who can afford them. Do you think that they want dogs, especially gone, so that soldiers won't have to deal with them when they invade our neighborhoods someday, especially as dogs act as a warning when someone is around their property? I have more to say if you can bare with me. Animal control is really getting out of control here as they are planning on trying to pass a law here at the next meeting that if a family has six pets they MUST allow animal control to inspect their yard and home once a year and maybe more. They must keep perfect records and upon inspection if they gave a dog away or lost one without notifying animal control, they will be arrested and charged with a misdemeanor and have their pets confiscated and they will not be returned unless they spay and neuter each animal and microchip each one too! There is more and of course the financial costs will be enormous and so many people in my town live paycheck to paycheck it will result in more dogs being killed by animal control and families emotionally and financially devastated! Do you know anyone who lives here in Bakersfield who would like to attend the Animal Control meeting at 2700 M street on November 21, 2007 at 6:00 PM?? I am going to be there passing out fliers about the link between microchips and tumors and your articles and I am going to tell them that I am supposed to be protected by the Constitution against unreasonable searches and seizures of my property!! Any advice you can offer would be appreciated as I am not a spring chicken and a little nervous. I appreciate you listening to me. I also think that prisons should take over animal control and allow the dog or cat that is not adopted to be allowed to live its life in prison being taken care of by non-violent and loving inmates. Inmates sometimes don't get to see animals for years and having animals to take care of might give them comfort and maybe upon their release and upon having the means to take care of it they would allow him or her to have the animal he or she was most fond of. I hope to hear from you and thank you for your time.
