How To Stop Breed Bans - New eBook

Howtostopbreedbansbhaywood470jpg_3

I started writing DogPolitics blog over three years ago, ignited by the issue of breed specific legislation after rescuing my dog - a "pitbull" mix - from the streets of Newark, NJ.

Since that time, breed bans and other forms of breed-specific legislation have spread like wildfire across the United States, Canada and around the world.

Sadly, thousands of innocent dogs have been literally snatched from the arms and homes of loving dog owners, OR dumped in shelters, condemned to die - all due to breed specific legislation.

The proponents of BSL include not just ignorant local legislators, but the very organizations that portray themselves as helping animals.

I am speaking explicitly about the Humane Society of the United States and PETA - organizations that directly support and promote breed specific legislation.

The efforts by PETA and HSUS to advance breed specific legislation are a betrayal of trust that so many give, and disservice to those desperately workingso hard  -but worst of all, PETA & HSUS spell nothing but homelessness, fear and death for dogs that look a certain way.

We know first hand, as those of us who own "targeted breeds  or have the courage stand up to fight BSL have been painted by HSUS & PETA as criminals, drug dealers, or dog fighters.

The latest spin from PETAphiles and the supporters of HSUS now casts us as greedy, evil dog breeders and puppymillers

I can assure you I am none of those.

I can also assure you that, in stark contrast to the image of pitbull owners that PETA & HSUS consistently portrays to the media, I neither a drug dealer, or a gang member.  I am not a hoodlum.

Blacks and Hispanics should be outraged. There is no doubt that PETA & HSUS have deliberately used racism to drive the media hype and public fear.

I am all about breaking that stereotype & the HSUS/PETA myth.

I am a white, middle-aged female.   I am a wife,  I am a mother.  I do not show dogs. I do not breed dogs. I only own rescued animals.  I'm a liberal and a registered voter.

And now I'm really pissed off.

So to help level the playing field for the thousands of innocent dogs and their owners  who are fighting to stop BSL -  and fighting a match that's been fixed from the start - I've decided to add my 2 cents - in the form of an eBook.

How To Stop Breed Bans - the Dog Owner's Guide To Breed Specific Legislation - is the very first self help book for dog owners fighting to save their dog from being restricted, banned, confiscated and euthanized.

How To Stop Breed Bans - the Dog Owner's Guide To Breed Specific Legislation draws on the wisdom of the people who have won - or lost local battles on BSL or other anti-dog laws, providing invaluable insight to those who are facing BSL in their own communities.

But fighting breed bans and other forms of BSL is really like fighting a media war -  it's a war for public opinion.  So for that very reason - How To Stop Breed Bans - the Dog Owner's Guide To Breed Specific Legislation  contains insight and advice from a marketing expert.

Me.

As the Chief Client Officer for one of the world's largest Internet companies, I advised and counseled some of the world's most famous  - and infamous  - names in business about marketing, PR and public perception.  We helped these companies overcome negative public perceptions, stereotypes and bad company brand images.

So why not make that type of advice available to every day dog owners & people who own pitbulls - dogs that have been painted as killers and owners stereotyped as either crazy or criminals?

That's why my new eBook - -How To Stop Breed Bans - the Dog Owner's Guide To Breed Specific Legislation gives dog owners, clubs, rescue groups  real and practical media, marketing and PR advice - which is so critical in defending the breeds of dogs  and their  owners.

But it's more that just a book.   Inside you’ll find ideas and strategies to:

How To Stop Breed Bans - the Dog Owner's Guide To Breed Specific Legislation  - contains an action plan and a toolbox to help local dog owners and local groups be more prepared to fight and win the battle to save innocent dogs.

Whether you live in Arkansas or Australia, Ohio or the Province of Ontario, there's something in this eBook for you.

You love your dog.  You would bend over backwards to protect your dog.  Help keep him or her safe from breed specific legislation, and help stand up for innocent dogs the world over.

They need you now - more than ever before.

Don't wait until it's too late.

New Rochelle Police Demand Photo ID From Dog Owners

"Let me see your papers!"  Police in New Rochelle, New York are demanding to see the PHOTO ID of innocent dog owners who are walking in the park with their dogs.

Gee - the last time I checked, this wasn't Nazi Germany.

Gee - the last time I checked - it was illegal and unconstitutional for police to stop a citizen and demand identification - for no reason.

New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson and members of the mostly Democratic City Council  have been taking their cues from the current administration and their penchant for dispensing with democracy and those nasty old documents - the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Dog Nazis In New Rochelle

That's right, dear readers, the Mayor and city council have turned New Rochelle into a police state. The city is sending armed police into Ward Acres Park to scour for dog owners and demanding their photo ID.

Can you say unconstitutional?  Can you say civil rights? Can you say 4th Amendment?

If it could happen here.......

Election Day Is My Dog Votes Day

Yesterday came the thrilling news that the Canadian Kennel Club actually declared Election Day as My Dog Votes Day.

And today, all eyes are upon the Province of Ontario, awaiting the outcome of the provincial elections.

Will Dalton McGuinty and the Liberal Party - the political party that banned pitbull type dogs from the province and condemned new puppies to death - stay in office?  Unlike the U.S>, Canada has a MULTIPLE party system  - and there could be a vote that splits in unforseen ways.

For many dog owners and dogs in Canada, this will be a life and death decision.

For many dog owners it will be the difference between being a law-abiding citizen or becoming a criminal.

To help you understand why this is such a critical issue - Here are some photos of the people who are or could become criminals in the Provice of Ontario, thanks to Dalton McGuinty..........

A Message For All Ontario Dog Owners

By Lori Gray

Please remember to VOTE on Oct 10th.

Thank Dalton McGuinty for stripping rights from Ontario dog owners! Thanks for targeting the responsible owners in your lame attempt to protect the public from dangerous dogs!

What this (previous) story illustrates is that the message from above is that it's OK to persecute people based on a subjective belief and that if they are perceived as easy targets, all the better.

I hope Dalton McGuinty realizes dog owners in Ontario have a strong message for him and his Liberal caucus on Oct 10th. We are sending a message they cannot ignore. Say NO to the Liberals on Oct 10th!

If you are an Ontario dog owner and your pet could be even remotely construed to be a 'pit bull' as described in the Ontario Liberals' pet piece of discriminatory legislation.

Until the Ontario law is overturned or repealed.................

Surrender For Destruction - A Canadian Dog Owner's Nightmare

To ALL Dog Owners -

I urge you to read the following story about an innocent dog owner's nightmare - brought forth by Lori Gray of the DLCC.  It's a true account of how ANY dog and ANY dog owner - can become a victim of the outrageous breed ban in the Province Of Ontario, Canada.

Know this -  whether you own a Maltese or a Mastiff - as dog owners we must stand together against breed hatred and political opportunism, and the assault upon the democratic principles that govern a free and open society.

I urge ALL dog owners to take immediate and corrective action.  Stand up for your dog and stand up for all dogs - otherwise no dog is safe from harm.

Get into the voting booth and send a clear message to your local elected officials - hire them or fire them -  and tell them that My Dog Votes!

Puppy Killer Premier McGuinty Seeks Reelection - How Would You Vote?

Mcguinty77Would you vote for this man?

In 2005, Ontario's Premier, Dalton McGuinty, the Premier of Ontario, Canada and the Provincial Leader of the Liberal Party, created and passed the DOLA - aka the Ontario Breed Ban.

Called Bill 132, the law bans all pitbull type dogs, allows animal control to seize your dog and condemn it to death just on their opinion  - a visual ID - alone, and condemns all new pitbull puppies to death, forces them out of the province or sends them to research facilities for...... death or experimentation.

How would you vote? Take our poll in the left-hand column of this page!

Dalton McGuinty Dissed By Dog On Campaign Trail

Check out this video!  Dalton McGuinty, the puppy-killing Premier of Ontario, Canada  - a man now hated by dog owners throughout Canada - is on the campaign trail, stumping for votes in the upcoming October election.

Dalton gets off the bus and bends down to greet this pretty Springer Spaniel - who turns her head away, rebuking him. We can't blame her - not one bit.  We wouldn't vote for him either - his dog politics stink.

Why?  McGuinty, the  leader of the Liberal Party, is responsible for the killer breed ban across the province, and the law designed to exterminate "pitbulls" - a law that requires all new pitbull puppies to be a) put to death, b) sent out of the province, c) sent to a research facility.

McGuinty's Liberal Party voted along party lines to install a breed ban, known as Bill 132, a law that has Liberal dog owners in Ontario jumping ship to other Canadian political parties like fleas off a dead dog. (There's a message in this for all U.S. politicians.)

We hope McGuinty's "Fiberal" ship is dead in the water, and we hope dog lovers throughout Canada will sink the chances of other dog-hating politicians who supported Bill 132 .

It's time to send a very clear message to all of them that..........

Lloyd Levine: Pro-Choice - Just Not For Dog Owners

Ok- so I know all of you have missed me.  I've missed you too.  Now - it's time for more fun & back to bashing those anti-dog politicians..... like:

Lloyd Levine - (D) CA

Lloydlevine2 Lordy, Lordy, Lloyd Levine.  Whatever shall we do with you?

What the hell are you thinking with this bogus AB1634?

Did you forget that you are a Democrat?  Did you forget your progessive values?

As a Democrat (Bob Casey aside) do you not stand for reproductive choice?

As a Democrat, do you not stand for the right for me to make a personal decision or not?

Do you not think that matters of reproduction are private, and any decision should be made between............

HSUS - Sterilize All Pit Bulls

"Requiring the sterilization of pit bulls does not have the same problems as traditional breed-specific legislation".

Pam Rogers, The Humane Society of the United States, July 2006 Letter To Louisville Metro Council

Oh really? My, my, my - what a tangled web HSUS weaves.

I have come to admire the HSUS - they are quite the marketers.  And they adhere to the Golden Rule of Marketing - which is "Know Thy Audience".   HSUS is a strong believer in market segmentation, tailoring their messages to specific audiences.

So to one group of people - meaning the animal-loving public - HSUS purports to oppose breed-specific legislation, however to another group of people - meaning municipal legislators, HSUS actually proposed breed-specific legislation.

Now what do you call telling one group one thing, and going behind their backs and telling another group something completely different? Two faced liars?  Good ole spinmeisters?  Back-stabbing betrayers?

In my view, you either support or oppose breed-specific legislation.

You either support discrimination against a group of dogs - and the people who own them, or you oppose discrimination against a group of dogs - and the people who own them.

Breed-specific legislation is not just breedist,  it's elitist.  But breed-specific legislation is also inherently racist.

Because in the minds of the public, and local legislators, driven by the media, the only people who own such dogs are criminals, gangmembers, drug dealers and dogfighters. Gee - I wonder where they got that idea?

HSUS - A Little Bit Racist?

You can't be a little bit pregnant or a little bit racist - there's no in between, is there?

We're Not In China, Anymore, Toto - Slate Mag Covers Dog Politics

We're Not In China Anymore, Toto - Slate Mag Covers Dog Politics

Dog Politics is like the "Little Political Blog That Could!  Journalists covering the world of politics suddenly Woke Up & Smelled The Dog, realizing the enormity of this demographic.

Commenting on President Bush's trip to Asia, Slate's  Bruce Reed,  author of the political blog, "The Has Been",  covers DogPolitics as it relates to China's recently implemented "One Dog" policy, and connects the dots to the recent  My Dog Votes Voter Opinion Survey on the issues dog owners hold dear..........................

In a piece  entitled, "Honey, I Shrunk The Dog"  -" To retrieve his presidency, Bush needs a new China policy: speak softly and throw a big stick", Bruce Reed writes,

"China's action has split the American animal-rights community. Wayne Pacelle, president of the Humane Society, makes the sensible argument that vaccinating dogs for rabies would do far more good than limiting each household to one (unvaccinated) dog. By contrast, PETA president Ingrid Newkirk's only objection is that there should be a "grandfather clause so that people who have more than one dearly loved dog don't now have to kill them." PETA's position doesn't sit well at dogpolitics.com—"The Political Blog for Dog Owners"—which attacks Newkirk for sending China the message, "Kill 'em but just don't eat 'em."

For Bush, the domestic politics of jerking China's chain on this are irresistible. The Pew Research Center reports that 39 percent of American households have dogs (only 23 percent have cats), and they're disproportionately the same middle-class families who ran away from Republicans last week.

No PETA sympathizers in that crowd; they're all hard-liners. Just look at the recent survey of 1,000 dog owners by a group called My Dog Votes. The group says "a startling 94.3% of dog owners ranked dog laws and policies as being an even more important concern than even property taxes." More to the point, the survey found that 97.9 percent of dog owners oppose size restrictions, 99.6 percent oppose limiting access to parks or downtown areas, and 92.9 percent "would cross party lines in a local or state election to preserve the right to own the dog of their choice."  We're not in China anymore, Toto."

For the entire story, visit Slate: http://www.slate.com/id/2153724/?nav=fix

Bruce Reed, who was President Clinton's domestic policy adviser, is president of the Democratic Leadership Council and editor-in-chief of Blueprint magazine.

Guess we're not obscure, anymore, huh, Toto.
